Charleville is a small traditional village in the Champagne area. Maurice Utrillo traveled a few days in this area in 1920 after the First World War and he was touched by this view of the damaged Church contrasting with the blossom of life and spring.
(As a testimony of this place we include 2 pictures of the Church : before and after reconstruction)

Maurice Utrillo : (1883-1955) is the ultimate parisian painter, Utrillo was born in Montmartre december 26, 1883. He is the son of Suzanne Valadon and certainly of the spanish painter Miguel Utrillo. Typical painter of The "École de Paris", Maurice Utrillo mostly painted landscapes with houses or parts of villages. Maurice Utrillo exhibited in many museums, as The MOMA (New York), The Ashmolean Museum of Art (UK), The Carnegie Museum of art (New York), and The "Musée de L'orangerie" (France), The Centre Pompidou, The National Museum of Modern Art (France),The Cantonal Fine-Arts Museum, Lausanne (Switzerland), The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) or The Tate Collection (UK)...
