Georges Rouault, 1933 The evil flowers Lithograph by Georges Rouault, great French expressionist painter of the School of Paris (with Modigliani, Picasso, Braque, Matisse...). This lithograph is an illustration for Les Fleurs du Mal by Charles Baudelaire, in a luxury edition by the famous publisher and art dealer Ambroise Vollard. It depicts two women, one combing the other’s hair. This composition recalls certain orientalist paintings by Ingres, Delacroix and Chassériau, such as Esther’s Toilet (Louvre Museum). Subject dimensions: 20.8 x 30 cm. Full margins. Very good state of conservation. Georges Rouault’s work is present in all major museums, such as the MoMA in New York, the Center Pompidou in Paris and the Tate in London.
