André de Dienes is an American-Hungarian photographer also known for his famous portraits of the young model Norma Jean before she became Marilyn Monroe. The couple collaborated for more than
ten
years, creating the most famous works by the photographer and the most powerful images of the actress. Born Andor György Ikafalvi-Dienes the 18th of December 1913 in Turia in Transylvania (now
Roumania), he works in editorial press before moving to Paris in 1933 to study art. He emigrates to the United States in 1938 and works for Esquire, Vogue, Life and other publications while
witnessing the landscapes of the American West. His work on the portraits of celebrities allows him to finance his photomontage experiences and his fine art works. Dienes continues to
photograph
nudes
after he installed himself in Hollywood in California, where he dies the 11th April 1985 at the age of 71 years old.
