Yannis Kounellis : (1936) was born in 1936 in Pirée, in Greece. He is associated with Arte Povera. Aged 20, Kounellis left Greece to go to Roma to study at the Fine Art Accademy, under the direction of Toti Scialoja. In 1960, he made his first personal exhibition at the galerie La Tartaruga, in Roma. His first exhibitions ideologically close to Arte Povera date back to 1967. Startin from 1970, he gets frustrated with the failure of innovative possibilities of Arte Povera. In 1971, he participated to the Paris Biennale, and the following year to the Venice Biennale. Since 1988, Yannis Kounellis works are presented at the Galerie Lelong in Paris.
