Markus Lüpertz :
(1941-) is a contemporary German painter, sculptor, writer, art educator, and jazz pianist. who was born in Reichenberg (now Liberec in Tchec republic) during WWII.
Lüpertz is considered as one of the most important german neo-expressionnist. Nicknamed "the prince of painters" for his spectacular public apparitions, and for his use of an egocentric rhetoric, and for his extravagant lifestyle, he is close to other contemporary german painters such as Jörg Immendorff or Georg Baselitz, put also people like the ex-chancelor Gerhard Schröder.
He lives and works between Berlin, Karlsruhe, Düsseldorf and Florence. He is married, and has 5 children.
