Etching inspired by the book written by him in 1753 and titled Analysis of beauty in which he exposed his aesthetic idea and listed the six principles that he believes affect beauty, that are,
fitness, variety, regularity, simplicity , complexity and quantity. In this table the artist has depicted an elegant ball, in which the grace of the couple represented on the left side, stands
out
and which contrasts with the other couples much more rough in appearance and gestures. The scene is framed by a series of minor portraits. The title of the work is engraved above the center.
