The engraving depicts Our Lady of Grace of Scheut. Scheut is a historic hamlet located in Anderlecht, now a municipality of Brussels (Belgium). It was a very famous Marian pilgrimage site from the 15th century onwards.
Good condition (minor stains, corner restored)

Historical context: The scene depicts a statue of the Virgin and Child appearing in a shrine (a small oratory opening like an altarpiece). The statue seems to be resting on a tree trunk, alluding to the legendary founding of the Shrine of Our Lady of Grace: According to tradition, a miraculous image of the Virgin was found in a hollow tree or affixed to a trunk, giving rise to the pilgrimage. Below, various figures pray or prostrate themselves, some in supplicating postures or afflicted with infirmities.
