Joan Miro (1893 - 1983)
Signed autograph letter addressed to Elisa BRETON, widow of André BRETON, dated from the 7th of February 1968; 2 pages in 4° on headed notepaper with and envelope
Beautiful letter mentioning the painter's admiration for André Breton and the preparation of a retrospective of his work at the Maeght Foundation: "It has been so long since I had the pleasure to
meet you, long before my more and more admired and dear André has left us. Caught up in the whirlwind of work my stays in Paris always only last a flash. The next time I'm in Paris, I will be happy
to allow myself to visit you. You are probably informed that Jacques Dupin is organizing for my 75th birthday a great exhibition of my works that would be inaugurated in July at the Maeght Foundation
in Saint-Paul de Vence. This exhibition will be continued later in Barcelona, my birth town, where I haven't exhibited in 50 years. I have great hope concerning Catalonia's future, the new
generations' dynamism can surprise us, just as André noticed himself when he gave, years ago, a magnificent lecture in Barcelona. I would greatly appreciate and would be very grateful if you could
lend us for both exhibitions "Constellation" - Danseuse Espagnole » (1928) - and « L'Objet du Couchant ». They are key pieces in my work but are also be a tribute to André Breton's perceptiveness. I
am sorry to bother you, dear Elisa. Pilar sends with me his most affectionate thoughts, warm embrace from us both "
