Signed autograph letter to Marguerite Moreno Daragon in Buenos Aires. Paris, January 16, 1911; 3p in-8th on Senate letterhead. With its envelope.
A pretty, gallant letter to the French actress who for seven years headed the French section of the Conservatoire of Buenos Aires, which she left at the beginning of the Great War. She married the actor Jean Daragon in 1908: "Wracked with guilt, I come to make penance at your feet or something nearing that sentiment. Since leaving Buenos Aires I have written to you in so many letters that I wonder if some of the ones I could have written on paper did not stay in the air. Suppose it for the convenience of the debate, (...) I could not have said anything to you that you do not already know first of all that I find it a joy to transfer my memories to you. And since all the rest would have been nothing but filling, what is the use of embarrassing you? All in all, therefore, I should not be surprised if you owe me some thanks for not having replied earlier to your charming letters, for which I sincerely express my gratitude. Even if I had some difficulty in breaking this poetic silence it is because I feared the contrast of a vulgar prose, always inferior, is it not true, to the feelings it claims to express. Here I am, however, and it is to tell you that I have talked a lot about you and what is near you - without, however, saying any harm. And I want to add that I send you my best New Year wishes and that at the end of this year will find me in your regard in the same way as the beginning (...) PS: All my good memories to Mr. Daragon "
