Chateaubriand meets the Duchess of Duras in the spring of 1808, wife of the Duke of Duras. A beautiful fraternal friendship is born between them, to the point where Chateaubriand gives him in first reading the "Adventures of the last Abencérage", exalted love poem to Nathalie de Noailles, cousin of Madame de Duras. The Duchess of Duras holds a salon at her home, welcoming the great names of the world of letters, arts, sciences and politics. She takes an active part in the diplomatic career of Chateaubriand.
