Pieces acquired by the former owner at the 'Arts & Crafts' gallery in Shanghai in 1993

These figurines belong to the tradition of 'Mingqi'. These are funeral substitutes originally made of wood, then in terracotta and which were placed in graves to accompany and serve the deceased in the afterlife.

Ming : (1368 - 1644). The Ming dynasty, also Empire of the Great Ming, was the ruling dynasty of China beween 1368 and 1644) following the collapse of the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty.
