These Ndoma Baoule masks-portraits, which are part of one of the oldest Baoule artistic traditions, frequently represent an idealized character, with the particularity of manifesting themselves at the end of dance ceremonies. The latter are named, depending on regions: Bedwo, Ngblo, Mblo, Adjussu, etc .... Each of these masks are distinguished by the hairstyles, location and scarifications, etc, ... Also called Gbagba, they embody graceful young girls or men whose reputation for integrity and valor is widespread. The new generations are gradually replacing the Mblo dances called Gbagba in some villages, retaining old traditions, by the Kpan Kpan dance, whose masks raise societal problems or refer to political issues.

Baoule : The Baoulé (or Baule) are an Akan people and one of the largest groups in the Ivory Coast.
