Salvador DALI
The centaur of Creta
Lithograph from the series Les Chevaux de Dalì (1970-72), in which the artist represent historical and mythological horses.
Hand signed on the right bottom and marked E.A. (Epreuve d'Artiste) on the left bottom.
56 x 36 cm (22 x 14.2 inches)
The work is dedicated to the legendary creature of the Centaurus, half man and half horse. This creature possessed all of the major strengths and weaknesses of the human race, to the point that the
mythology depicted them as creatures of animal cruelty or profound wisdom. The Dali's interpretation corresponds to the first view, and he represents it indeed gripped by a bestial fury.
