Mario Avati : (1921-2009) was a french painter and engraver, who lived and worked in Paris. After studying at the École nationale des arts décoratifs of Nice and at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-arts in Paris, Mario Avati was practising starting from 1947, all sorts of engravings. Ten years later, he went exclusively towards mezzo-tinto, first in black, and then starting from 1969 in colours. He contributed to relaunch this graphic technique as a medium for popular expression. His work is of a very classical inspiration, mainly dealing with still lifes - fruits, flowers etc... or animals (butterflies for exemple), with a geometric treatment. Some os his engravings have been used for stamps editions. Mario Avati was a member of the Société des peintres-graveurs français.
