Majapahit
Volcanic tuff stele
This stele features a large, standing, male figure accompanied by a smaller female figure. The large figure is crowned and wearing extensive jewelry. Taking the protruding fangs into
account as well, it is probably a demonic god. Large, expressive eyes and ratna between the eyebrows. One of his arms rests on the female figure's shoulder, who has an abundant head of hair
and
is
his lover or wife. Both standing on a lotus base.
Majapahit was an Indonesian empire which existed in the 14th and 15th centuries up to 1520 and which covered the entire Indonesian archipelago.
Condition report: Signs of aging, especially around the pedestal; complete and art-historically interesting condition, nose a little damaged.
