Arsène Chabanian (1864-1949) is a french painter born in Erzurum in Armenia. Painter of the nature, particularly seashores and marines, Chabanian worked his paintings from the coasts of Bretagne, Vendée, South of France, everywhere where the mysterious magic of the sea could be perceived. He studied at the Julian Academy, and was taught by Gustave Moreau among others. He received in 1896 the honourable mention at the Salon des Artistes français, and received another one at the Universal Exhibition of 1900. He exhibited at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and participated at the Brussels exhibition in 1910. He was chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
