Iran Ancient 13th-15th century
Gurgan oil lamp in green ceramic
Height: 15 cm
From Hyrcanie (country of wolves), currently attached to the Iranian province of Mazandaran. This once prosperous region has suffered greatly from Turkmen invasions. This object represents a
perfect
example of medieval Islamic pottery, whose turquoise green color is symbolic. It is thought that this very fashionable colour sought to imitate Chinese porcelain.
