Alberto KORDA Che GUEVARA Guerrillero Heroico Signed posterior silver print

Alberto KORDA
Che GUEVARA Guerrillero Heroico

Signed posterior silver print, titled (Guerrillero heroico 5/3/1960) in the lower margin.
A famous photograph of Che Guevara immortalised on 5 March 1960 by Cuban photographer Alberto Korda, this charismatic portrait of Che with its black, rebellious gaze travelled the world and stood the test of time. Korda tells us that a demonstration had been organised by Fidel Castro in tribute to the victims of the sabotage of the French ship La Coubre, which was anchored in Cuban waters. A platform had been set up, and it was then that Che Guevara appeared in the background of Fidel Castro, who was in the company of Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre. The photographer caught his intense black eyes on the spot. But the photo was not chosen by the revolutionary newspaper Revolución, which did not publish it until February 1961. It became famous after the revolutionary's death on 9 October 1967, when the Italian publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, who had bought a set of photos of Che Guevara from Korda the previous summer, printed the portrait on several posters, selling thousands of copies. The legend was born.
