Armand Nakache (1894-1976) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator, born in Bône, Algeria. After studying art in Paris, he was mobilized during the First World War, where he received the Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Honor.

His style, influenced by Expressionism since 1935, is characterized by distorted subjects and vibrant colors. He explored themes such as clowns, acrobats, and circus scenes, often imbued with a fantastical dimension.

Nakache actively participated in Parisian artistic life, co-founding the Salon Populiste in 1933 and presiding over the Society of Independent Artists from 1952 to 1964. He was also a founding member of the Association of Painters Witnesses of Their Time.

His works are held in several museums, including the Louvre Museum and La Piscine in Roubaix. Notable works include *The Lost Clown* (1951) and *The Goatee Clown* (1982).
