He is the son of Édouard Sandoz, founder of the chemical firm Sandoz (known today as Novartis). He studied three years at the Ecole des Arts industriels de Geneva and then moved to Paris where he studied at the École des beaux-arts de Paris under Antonin Mercié and Jean-Antoine Injalbert. Sandoz his known for his numerous porcelain boxes, bottles, tea and coffee services. nombreuses boîtes, bouteilles, carafes, services à thé et café en porcelaine. Indeed, because of the WWI and its consequent bronze and stone shortages, Sandoz turned to porcelain for his sculptures, and started then a thirty years association with Haviland Limoges. He worked on various materials: marble, bronze, and ceramic. His style was very much influenced by Art nouveau. He founded the société française des animaliers in 1933. For over 20 years he leaded the Taylor Foundation, created by Isidore Justin Séverin Taylor. Sandoz was a member of the Académie des beaux-arts de l'Institut de France. Il was Commander in the order of the Légion d'honneur (Legion of Honour) and Commander in the order of Arts et des Lettres (Arts and Litterature).
