This work is a collaboration between the cartoonist Jean Cabu and the painter Claude Lepoitevin, who was a painter / dyer for the Dupuis workshop. Plate signed by the two artists lower right.

In the 70s, "La Mère Denis", a washerwoman from Normandy became a star of the small screen at the age of 79 years. His fate changed when the advertising agent Pierre Baton, who was looking for a personality responsible for embodying the brand of “Vedette” washing machines, made the daring choice to take the washerwoman from the village in Normandy where he was spending his holidays. Jeanne Marie Le Calvé, known as 'La Mère Denis', shot eight TV commercials from 1972 to 1980. Her sentence "Ah, that's really true!" Became cult. Paris Match named her the most outstanding personality of the year. The mother Denis was even noticed by the director Louis Malle, who entrusted her with the role of Martha, the mother of Snowy, in "Snowy in May". Unfortunately, she passed away shortly before filming, on January 17, 1989, at the age of 95.
Cabu published a book in collaboration with the Albin Michel editions, "Votez la Mère Denis", in February 1981, where our board appears, as part of the presidential campaign of May 1981 which saw the election of the first socialist president under the Fifth Republic, François Mitterrand.
