The Buddha is shown lying in the Parinirvana position, the last step before entering a state of eternal peace. Lying on the left flank, the Awakened One has his right arm bent, her head resting
against the palm of her hand, his left arm pressed down his body. The feet are joined, the torso resting on a triangular cushion. He is dressed in a monastic robe which is thick and richly adorned.
He is lying on a long layer (embellished with a canopy, now disappeared) resting on a pedestal supported by six garudas, royal symbols and protective figures.
