Superb pair of sculptures in wood Coromandel lacquer figuring Vishnu riding Garuda.

Beautiful work in the round, many details with all the elements of this representation of hindu mythology. Garuda, Vishnu, the snake and the tortoise.

Correct condition despite a beautiful general appearance; marks of wear, a few missing elements to report: Vishnu's right hand on one of the sculptures and an element on the upper part of the other statue. Are also missing some feathers on one of the statues. An element of the upper part is cracked. The pictures take part in the description and show the condition of these pieces.

Vishnu : Vishnu is one of the three gods of Hinduism (the two ohers being Shiva and Brahma). Vishnu is often depicted reclining on a lotus flower above the Shesha Naga. Lakshmi is Vishnu's consort, his mount is the eagle geruda. Vishnu's main attributes are : a mace, a chakra, a conch shell and a lotus flower
