The amethyst is a fine stone, variety of quartz that we recognise by its violet and porphyry colour. It was discovered essentially in Brazil and Uruguay.
In the story, the amethyst has often been associated to royalty, notably for its colour considered like a royal colour. The amethyst counts amongst the jewels of the British crown. The stone also adorned the crowns of Egypt and Russia.
