The Yohouré are a subgroup of the Akan tribe living in Ivory Coast, on the riverbank of the Kossou lake and in Ghana. Geographically close to the Baoulés and the Gouros, the Yahoure are at the source of the Baoulé art. The african Yaouré art marsks divide in two groups that are difficult to distinguish. The Je have colored pigments and the Lo generally have a dark patina and are used during funeral ceremonies or any other ritual to earn favors from the gods. The masked Yaouré or Yohouré dancers were not be seen by women in order to not become sterile. It was thus defended to take pictures of them.
