Moïse Kisling : (1891-1953) was a french-polish painter, from the École de Paris. He was born in Cracow (Poland) and he died in Sanary-sur-Mer in April 1953. Moïse Kisling studied at the École des Beaux-arts in Cracow. In 1910, he settled in Montmartre, and then in Montparnasse. During the first World War, he enroled in the Foreign Legion, and was badly hurt in 1915 durint the Somme battle: he was naturalized following this wound. He was a friend of Amedeo Modigliani who made his portrait in 1916, and was an important actor if the Montparnasse artistic community. He has lived for some time in Brittany, in the Creis ar park villa, in the village of Plougasnou. Of jewish origins, he had to leave to New York during World War II. His feminine nudes and portraits were very successful. His works can be seen in several private and public collection, such as the Petit Palais in Geneva, Switzerland.
