Joaquím Sunyer, born in 1874 in Sitges, where he died in 1956, was a Catalan painter and engraver of the 19th and 20th centuries. At the age of eighteen, he left for Paris, where he remained until 1911, in Montmartre. Willette, Steinlen, and Miquel Utrillo became his friends, as did Picasso, who moved to the Bateau-Lavoir in 1900. Sunyer's silhouettes from this period are very close to those of Picasso in his pink and blue periods.
