Guardian of the Mahongwe Kota Reliquary

Reliquary of the Kota Mahongwe people, located in North-Eastern Gambon.

These anthropomorphic sculptures watched over the relics of the dead.

The copper and hammered brass plate is very finely done. The bottom of the room is eroded, and the reliquary is on a base - see photos.

Total height with base of 56 cm
The reliquary measures 52.5 x 28 x 7.5 cm
The base measures 11.5 x 11.5 x 3.5 cm

Weight: approximaely 1,600 kg without packaging.

Materials: Dense wood, hammered copper and brass plating.
Presumed antiquity: Mid 20th century.
