JonOne (1963-) is a pseudo for John Andrew Perello, an american graffitti artist. He is one of the first key figures of Street Art. He works and live in Paris since the end of the 1980's. John Perello was born in the Harlem area, in New York in 1963. He stepped in the graffitti world when he was 17 thanks to his childhood friend "White Man", tagging his name "Jon" followed by 156 (his street) on the walls and trains of his neighbourhood, and then all over New York. According to him, « the subway is a museum that runs through the city.» He founded the graffitti group "156 All Starz" in 1984, in order to bring together their passion, and forget about their problems. That is when he met Bando in New York. Following an invitation from the latter, he moved to Paris in 1987. He began his work as a painter on canvas in a workshop at the Hospital Ephemeral, a literal hospital building that became a squatting place for artists, located in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. Here, he painted with the artists A-One, Sharp, Ash (Victor Ash), and Jayone Skki. Soon, he made a name for himself in Parisian artistic circles through exhibitions he held, including one in 1990 at Gallery 45 Gleditsch in Berlin and the exhibition Graffiti Paris, at rue Chapon in Paris. At an Artcurial auction on June 6, 2007, Match Point, a large canvas was bought by a New York collector for €24,800, a record sale for the artist. This auction was also the highest bid ever obtained in France for a work of graffiti art.
