Bursa Yastik hanging in velvet, silk and gold thread, Ottoman Empire, 18th century

Magnificient hanging in velvet, silk and gold from the town of Bursa. Situated in the North-West of current Turkey, the town was the centre of production for royal silk, facilitated by the blackberry culture around Nilufer.

These hangings inspired by Venitian velvet were were sought after by the elite of the Ottoman Empire. 17th/18th century.
