Sawankhalok, 14th-16th century AD
Sandstone covered with an addition of green copper oxide glaze at mid-height.
Dimensions: H = 9, 2 x 5.8 x 4.5 cm
This small sandstone statuette represents a kneeling mother breastfeeding her child.
The face is treated with great sobriety and her slanted eyes are barely sketched.
She wears a big bun on the back of the skull, characteristic of this type of statuette. Her legs curiously brought back under her thighs, end in point.
There is an identical statuette of the Guimet Museum.
