In the 1980s, Hockney began producing photo collages - first using Polaroid prints and then 35 mm commercially processed color prints. Using Polaroid photos or laboratory photo prints of a
single
subject, Hockney arranged a patchwork to create an image composite. Because the photographs are taken from different perspectives and at slightly different times, the resulting work has an
affinity
with Cubism, one of Hockney's main goals being to discuss how human vision works.
