The subject is the Horse of Triumph, which drives the chariot where the triumphant hero stands. Especially in Roman times, the chariot itself was seen as a symbol of fame and triumph. It was the
highest honor that could be attributed in Ancient Rome. The trimphator used to use a chariot to drive up the Via Sacra in the Roman Forum, from where he then climbed on the Capitol Hill.
