William Hogarth (nachher) Mr. Garrick in der Figur von Richard III Radierung 48 x 59 cm Gravur aus dem Originalgemälde von 1745. Das Werk zeigt Herrn David Garrick in der Shakespeare-Figur von Richard III, einer Rolle, dank der der Schauspieler 1743 Ruhm erlangt hatte. Die dargestellte Szene ist der siebzehnte des fünften Akts, als, Vor der Schlacht von Bosworth wird der König von den Geistern aller getötet, die er getötet hat. Garricks Körper ist zu einer S-förmigen Linie verdreht, die Hogarth für schön hielt und die zur Grundlage seiner 1753 veröffentlichten theoretischen Abhandlung "The Analysis of Beauty" wurde. Das Werk wurde mit der Technik des "Radierens" erstellt. Titel, Autor und Datum werden unten in der Mitte angezeigt.

Hogarth considered distinctly beautiful. He later made this shape the basis of his theoretical treatise 'The Analysis of Beauty' published in 1753. This first major Shakespearian picture is not
just a portrait but also a grand history painting in which Hogarth emphasises England's importance. Lettered below image with title and production and publication details.
